Davis Dyslexia Correction® Facilitator, Educational Programmer

Mary Kay obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in education from Drake University. She is a certified Davis Dyslexia Correction® Facilitator and contributes a unique combination of business experience along with a background in education. The dyslexic learning style is prevalent in her family, prompting her to explore learning alternatives for her own children. Her associations with other professionals dealing with children and learning differences resulted in the collaboration at Innovative Learning Professionals. Mary Kay serves as educational programmer, business manager, and provides Davis Dyslexia Correction®  programs.

DAVID G. BEEMAN, Ph.D., Psychologist
Director of Assessment and Psychological Services.

David obtained his doctorate in psychology from Iowa State University in 1992. He did his undergraduate work at the University of Notre Dame. With approximately 12 years of experience, he has a strong background in assessment of children, adolescents, and adults including psychological, educational, emotional, cognitive, and perceptual aspects of psychological evaluations and neuropsychological screenings. He also has a strong background in counseling services for adolescents and adults. He joined the Innovative Learning Professionals with a strong desire to maintain a quality standard of assessments, to develop treatment alternatives, and to recognize the need to address learning issues as related to an individual's functioning as a whole. David serves as the director of assessment and psychological services (including EEG Neurotherapy and Cognitive Rehabilitation).

SUSAN SMITH HELKENN, LISW

Susan joined our practice in 2009 to add neurotherapy to her range of skills and treatment modalities. ILP was a good fit for Susan’s unique range of practical and clinical experiences, having served adults and children in the mental health and medical field for over 15 years. Susan is certified as a Child Life Specialist, holds a Bachelor's degree in Psychology and Sociology-Anthropology from Nebraska Wesleyan University and a Master's in Social Work from the University of Iowa. Clinical interests include adjustment disorder, anxiety, depression, school related problems, relationship issues, grief/loss as well as medical trauma and stress. Susan strives to schedule new clients promptly and is accepting referrals for adults, adolescents, and children.

DUANE DOLPHIN, MA, BCBA, Llcensed Psychologist
Psychological Assessment & Applied Behavioral Analysis Services

Duane obtained his Master’s Degree in Psychology through the Applied Analysis of Behavior program at Drake University in 1981 and became Licensed in the state of Iowa in 1985.

He did his undergraduate work at Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa.  He attained extensive experience while working at the Woodward Resource Center, Polk County ARC, ChildServe, Broadlawns Medical Center and Easter Seals, and has gained approximately 36 years of experience with providing services to individuals with mental retardation/intellectual and developmental disabilities’ along with related mental health issues.

Duane has a strong background in assessment of infants, children, adolescents, and adults, with special needs; including intellectual, adaptive, educational, emotional, and behavioral aspects of psychological evaluations for Waiver services.

He also has a strong background in applied behavioral analysis and behavior management services to adolescents and adults, with intellectual/developmental disorders and associated mental health issues, as well as individuals with autistic spectrum issues or developmental disabilities.

He joins the Innovative Learning Professionals with a strong desire to provide quality services in behavioral therapy and intellectual/adaptive assessment and to keep an eye on Best Practices and new developments in the field of treatment, so that each individual can realize his or her highest possible level of achievement/self-reliance.  He is a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA).
